Invest in ME Kindergarten is brought to you by the Alfond Scholarship Foundation and the Finance Authority of Maine to raise awareness among Maine families of kindergarten students about the Alfond Grant and about NextGen 529™.
The Alfond Scholarship Foundation has invested a $500 Alfond Grant for every baby born a Maine resident since January 1, 2013¹. The Alfond Grant is a grant for education beyond high school. The $500 Alfond Grant is a legacy gift from late philanthropist Harold Alfond to benefit future generations of Maine children. Many Maine children entering kindergarten this fall have been awarded the Alfond Grant.
Parents or family members can also invest in a child’s future by opening a NextGen 529 account and making contributions. NextGen 529 is Maine’s Section 529 plan, which many families use to save for higher education expenses. The Finance Authority of Maine offers matching grants for Maine residents including grants awarded for opening a NextGen 529 account, making contributions and automating contributions.²
